Books
can teach very important lessons. So when I read a list of banned books and saw
Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins in the list, I was very surprised. The reason I
was so surprised was because the book teaches responsibility. Katniss does
everything for her family. When her father died, her mother quit her job. Katniss stepped up and started to hunt,
trade, and get her family money. The
book shows a lot of responsibility and should not be banned.
In the beginning, the author shows
you a lot of what Katniss does. She hunts, trades, gets income, and also feeds
her family. When her father died, Katniss had to put her family on her back.
Her mother quit her job and stayed at home. Katniss had to be responsible for
everything and she lived up to it. Suzanne Collins shows us that the book has more
to it then war. She shows us responsibility and a lot of it. She shows us how
much Katniss had to do daily to keep a living. The book Hunger Games teaches us
about responsibility and should not be banned.
The book won’t want to make kids go
around killing people, or shoot someone with a bow and arrow. The book is meant
to entertain the reader. According to the article, “Banned Books We Have
Loved,” R.L. Stine (author of Goosebumps) says "It is badges of honor to have people try to
ban your books from schools and school libraries, only because it means your
books have become popular and are being noticed. Unpopular books seldom get
banned." Rita Meade (Liberian) says that "I honestly don't think that
banning a book ruins its reputation or makes children afraid to read it. If
anything, the opposite will happen. Young people are still going to read
the series, it's still going to be hugely popular, and—guess what!—it's still
going to get kids to read who might not have otherwise. The Hunger Games series is being requested almost
daily at my library—the holds list is 700 people long for the first book
alone. Being on a 'banned' list in general probably won't do anything
except increase curiosity and interest for a book. As they say, there's no
such thing as bad publicity." Both people say that trying to ban the book
will just give it a bigger name. It won’t make people scared to read it, just
want to read it more.
Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
should not be banned because the book teaches responsibility. The book is not
completely about war. Kids who read this can learn what you have to do
sometimes in order to help you family. The Hunger Games is a great example of
responsibility and should not be banned.
